Creating a bright, free flowing and open plan space with a blend of traditional and modern elements in Southwest London.
This semi-detached property over two floors in SW11 had a narrow living and kitchen area restricted from an adequate amount of natural light. The client design brief for this project was to extend the full width into their otherwise unused side return creating a bright, free flowing and open plan space. Incorporating a balance of traditional and modern elements.
We were immediately able to visualise how the space would be developed in the most beneficial manner by tailoring the specification through an extensive design process. In order to deliver that open plan setting from living room to kitchen, the rear wall of the house was removed. We formed a full width opening across the rear of the property for a set of folding doors and a distinctive concertina window to be installed. This along with the three large velux windows in the pitched roof of the side return provided exceptional levels of natural light into all areas of the extension. With the continuation of flooring exceeding into the garden it accentuates the sensation of free flowing space.
The selection of a more traditional kitchen style and neutral colours for decorating has complimented the modern influences throughout the extension. Plus rooms impeccable attention to detail is visible on the rear of the property with the matching of the London stock brickwork with the existing.
This was not only a kitchen extension but also a full house refurbishment that we did for the client. In 14-weeks we had all of the proposed, building work completed to a builders finish. A further 4-weeks was needed for our finishing team to produce the high standard finish specified. We created two additional bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms in the newly built loft conversion. One of which had a Juliet balcony feature that once opened allowed floods of natural light into the bedroom. In the master bedroom we produced handmade blinds and wardrobes that really adds to the character of the property.
In total over an 18-week period we transformed this property into a beautiful family home.
The final ambience Plus rooms achieved was a combination of traditional and modern influences producing a bright, open planned, living space that was multifunctional.
